God Is Our Help: Returning to Him for Victory and Peace

Beloved, today let's draw inspiration from 1 Samuel 7—a story of Israel's journey back to God. The Ark of the Lord, symbolizing God's presence, was brought to the home of Abinadab, and for twenty years, Israel felt distant from God. They mourned, feeling abandoned, but God was still watching over them.

Samuel, the prophet, called the people to true repentance. He asked them to put away their foreign gods and focus only on the Lord. He told them, "If you are serious about returning to the Lord, get rid of anything that takes His place in your heart." And the people obeyed. They destroyed their idols and turned back to God with all their hearts.

My brothers and sisters, this story is a powerful reminder that God's mercy is always within reach, no matter how far we've wandered. But true repentance requires action. It means letting go of anything that separates us from God—be it fear, doubt, or distractions of this world.

When the Philistines attacked, Israel was afraid, but they did not run away. They cried out to God, and Samuel prayed for them. As Samuel sacrificed a lamb, the Lord responded with a mighty thunder, throwing the enemy into confusion, and Israel won the victory.

Just like the Israelites, we may face battles that seem overwhelming. But when we turn back to God, He fights for us. He confuses the plans of our enemies and gives us victory.

Samuel set up a stone and named it Ebenezer, meaning "stone of help," saying, "Up to this point, the Lord has helped us." Today, let us remember our own "Ebenezers"—the moments when God has stepped in and helped us, even when all seemed lost.

As long as Samuel was alive, the hand of the Lord was against Israel's enemies, and peace reigned in the land. This is what happens when we walk closely with God—He gives us peace, restores what was lost, and keeps us safe from our enemies.

So today, let us examine our hearts. Are there idols we need to destroy? Are we serious about returning to the Lord? If we are, let's cry out to Him, for He is ready to hear, to forgive, and to fight our battles.

Remember, God is our Ebenezer—our stone of help. And just as He helped Israel, He will help you, too, if you trust in Him.

Amen.
