Peace: A Major Tool For Rapid, Accelerated And Sustainable Development In Africa

The pursuit of peace has been a crucial need for humanity from the dawn of civilization. Its importance cannot be overemphasized as it is a vital tool in driving rapid and accelerated development in Africa.

The continent is plagued with conflict and violence, setting back its advancement significantly.

Promoting peace in Africa is not only essential in resolving conflicts but also boosts the economic, social, and political development of the continent.

States that have experienced conflict and violence experience economic deterioration as the conflict leads to destruction and interruption of primary economic activities. It causes significant damage to the infrastructure and civilian-owned businesses, resulting in lost employment opportunities and an increase in poverty rates.

Therefore, promoting peace and stability is vital for economic growth and development.

With peace restored, infrastructure can be rebuilt, businesses can be reopened, and people can return to work. This, in turn, reduces poverty rates, increases human capital formation, and ethical investment in development-oriented projects.

Peace provides a platform for inclusive governance with stable institutions, which is essential for sustainable development. Conflict-ridden states suffer from a lack of leadership, weak institutions, and corruption.

In contrast, peaceful nations have responsible leadership, stronger institutions, better infrastructure, and higher education opportunities.

Peaceful societies promote democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law, allowing for full citizen participation in the policymaking process. Good governance ensures accountability, transparency, and equity in the distribution of resources, leading to sustainable development.

In conclusion, peace is a crucial tool for rapid and accelerated development in Africa. It creates a conducive environment for social, economic, and political development. It is, therefore, essential for African leaders to invest in peace-building efforts, promote inclusive governance, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.

There is no doubt that peace is the missing link towards Africa's sustainable development goals, and it must be given the utmost priority if the continent is to reach its full potentials.
