FIVE CAUSES OF CYBER CRIMES AND FIVE SOLUTIONS
FIVE CAUSES OF
CYBER CRIMES AND FIVE SOLUTIONS
By
Scholar John (AMUSA
JOHN TOLULOPE)
Any society that places more value on acquiring wealth rather than
pursuing cultural and human value will soon be eroded away and be forgotten so
quickly and a society where an unrepentant criminal is worshipped for his
wealth than revering a university professor who has meritoriously attained the
peak of his career will be fading away unknowingly.
Cyber-crimes are unlawful conduct
carried out by unauthorized individuals with the use of computers, electronics
and other ancillary devices, which causes system interference, data
interception, intellectual theft and fraud. It is also the act of using
computer to abuse data and sabotage, disruption of network, traffic by denying
services, attack/email bombing, creation or distribution of viruses, identity
theft, cyber pornography and cyber-squatting and other forms of unethical
practices.
The fast growing cyber-crimes in our society today is as a result of
many societal factors which has make the little mustard seed to grow and
develop into an established tree which may not be uprooted again if necessary
preventive measures are not taken quickly.
Reasons for individual’s engagement
in these unlawful acts and hereby violating the law are numerous which is having
a lot of consequential effect on the economy. A lot of factors are responsible
for individuals’ engagement in any form of unethical cyber practice which in
turn is the reason for some of their actions.
Break in relationship of parents is one of the reason why we have
cyber-crimes in our society today. The rate of divorce in our society today is
so alarming that marriages less than six months are already in court waiting to
be dissolved. These cases of divorce in our society today is one to worry about
as products of these unsettled homes grow up to engage in every form of
unethical cyber practices.
Unemployment is also one of the major factor that contribute and promote
cyber-crimes in our society. There are a lot of unemployed graduate in our
society. Unemployment will hinder an individual to be able to contribute
positively to national growth and development and may be unable to feed
properly if not gainfully employed and may cause an individual to engage in
unethical cyber practices.
Uncontrolled love for materialistic things. Excessive love for money and
not lack of money is also responsible for engagement in all forms of unethical
cyber practices. The society place so much premium on wealth acquired by
individuals and pay no or less attention to the number of life that have been impacted
positively by them. An unrepentant criminal is worshipped for his wealth and
more revered than a university professor.
Negative peer group influence is
also responsible for individual’s engagement in all forms of unethical cyber
practices. In other to be socially acceptable, some individuals get themselves
involved in acts they would not have got themselves involved in. They allow
what other people say about them to form their opinion about themselves and
yield easily to negative peer pressure to engage in all forms of unethical
cyber practices.
Exposure to societal ills like gambling and other unlawful act at a
tender age have a way of creating a mindset that becomes adamant to change. It
deteriorate to the point it becomes impossible for the minds to be turned
against these unlawful practices.
To every challenge, there is always a solution and whatever the
challenge may be there is always a way out. To curb this present day dilemma
and prevent people from engaging in cyber-crimes and every form of unethical
cyber practices, the following must be done:
A re-orientation among youths and a change of attitude among youths. The
youths must believe in themselves and their country so that they can contribute
positively to national growth and development and be useful to themselves as
well.
A change of attitude by public office holders, putting less emphasis on
wealth as a pre requisite to hold public office.
Government should focus on people oriented policies that will impact
positively on the standard of living of citizens, by reducing poverty,
unemployment and providing social infrastructure.
Government should organize programmes that will empower the youths and make
them employers of labour, creativity can still be returned to where everyone
would be able to think of how to affect his own nation positively.
Parents should be encouraged to help their children imbibe good moral
character, so that they can be useful not only to themselves but to the society
and this will encourage a cyber-crime free society and engagement in all forms
of unethical cyber practices.
I believe in a cyber-crime free society and a change from every form of
unethical cyber practices. Change is one of the few constant in life, some
people will fight it, some will embrace it, others will wait and see but no one
can avoid it.
I BELIEVE IN A
CYBER-CRIME FREE SOCIETY.

IMAGINE A WORLD FREE FROM CORRUPTION By Scholar John (AMUSA JOHN TOLULOPE)
Corruption is the bane of any
society that embraces it. A world without corruption is one that will make the
sojourn of every human on earth a memorable one, every need will be met, pains
will be relieved and every human shall enjoy all the basic amenities of life.
It is not about how much we talk about it but we must be advocate of these
changes we desire to see in our world. We must be the change we want to see in
our world. A world free of corruption is possible. We must all believe that we
can live in a world free from every form of corruption.
Questions and doubt about the
possibility of a world free from corruption will continue to make the
realization of it far-fetched. I believe in a world free from corruption. I
believe that all men everywhere are going to join in this initiative and
embrace it and believe in a world free from corruption and corrupt practices.
The high level of corruption in the society
is one to worry about. The level of reportage by major Medias like radio,
television and so on is so alarming that a day old child can be said to be
aware of these corrupt practices. These corrupt practices exist in diverse
ways. It exists in form of bribe, money laundering, and diversion of project
funds for personal use and so on. It is noteworthy to state here that these
corrupt practices have eaten deep into the nook and cranny of the society. To
get rid of these corrupt practices, there must be conscious effort and
commitment on the part of every individual member of the society to get rid of
these long imbibe corrupt practices. Repetition as commonly termed is for the
purpose of emphasis. We must keep emphasizing the benefit of a free corrupt world
and society.
The benefit of a corruption free
society is so enormous. The effort of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (E.F.C.C.) towards ridding the Nigerian society of every form of
corrupt practices is commendable. We must join in this fight against corruption
and discourage every form of corruption and corrupt practices.
The major institutions, starting
from the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions must discourage corrupt
practices at their respective levels and encourage honesty and diligence. The
high level of malpractices in these major educational institution although
certain rules and regulations govern the conduct of examination in some of
these institution and penalties for engagement in any form of malpractices
between student and teachers have been clearly stated, it has not been curb
still.
I believe that there are a few who
still abide by the rules and do not compromise their stands no matter the
pressure and offers. I believe with continual sensitization and awareness of
the negative consequences of engaging in corrupt practices and also rewarding
individual members of the community who do not bend to pressure of engaging in
corrupt practices will encourage and help us have a society and a world free
every form of corruption.
The family institution cannot
also be swept aside in a bid to have a world free from corruption. Right ideals
and characters are formed from the family institution. The fathers and mothers
must be good examples for their children to emulate. In a situation where the
fathers and mothers are bad examples, it may give birth to children who are
going to going to give birth to offspring that will encourage continual
practices of every form of corrupt practices. The family institution,
especially the heads and sub-heads referring to the fathers and mothers must be
good examples and must encourage honesty, kindness and diligence among their
children. These virtues if portrayed by their children in their conducts must
be rewarded to encourage them to continue and others who may still be adamant
to repent in order to have a world free from corruption and every form of
corrupt practices.
The community also has a major role to
play in order to have a world free from every form of corruption and corrupt
practices. Community leaders like traditional heads like Oba’s, Emirs, Obi and
other leaders in the community must use their monarchial office to encourage
corrupt practices free community and they themselves must be worthy examples
for the members of the community to emulate and must not be found to be
engaging in any form of corruption or corrupt practices. I believe the
community can influence so positively for us to have a world free from
corruption and every form of corrupt practices.
The religious bodies although
emphasize constantly how good deeds will help you gain a good home in eternity.
The Islamic and Christian religion gather their faithful’s on weekly basis and
remind them of the need to live a life that will make them worthy to gain a
good home in eternity but the corrupt practices keep pervading the society and
corrupt practices is not far from these religious organizations too with
stories of mismanagement of funds made available for welfare within these
religious organizations. I still believe that there are a few faithful
religious bodies within the religious circle who are accountable and are
capable to raise men and women of worthy characters who can be trusted to lead
in the fight against corruption and in order to have a society free from
corruption and every form of corrupt practices.
The political circles also have a
major role to play. The political parties and their members must uphold the
core value of their respective political affiliation and must not allow the
long held perception of dishonesty, mismanagement and diversion of money by the
people about political parties and politicians to continue in order for us to
have a world free from corruption and every form of corrupt practices. The
citizens will enjoy all basic and social amenities when there is
accountability.
The civil servants, the market men
and women, the military and every member of the community that constitute the
society and the world at large must rise up and put an end to this menace of
corruption in order to have a world free from corruption and every form of
corrupt practices.
I
do not only imagine a world free from corruption but I believe in a world free
from corruption and every form of corrupt practices.

A NEW NIGERIA: CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU AND ME
On this lane of change,I choose to rail
I must lay and pay in order to gain
for me to bring about the change
I must be the change I want to see in my world.
Kwashiorkoric or Epileptic
The system of education
Deficient like a child that lacks protein
Disorganised like a machine that is not easy to maintain
like a sickle cell it rises and falls
Dry ground like a rain in vain
Producing beautiful flowers but no fruit to show
The lands cries for rain
The habitation are crying for change
For they are tired of sowing in pain and reaping in vain.
My attitude will determine my altitude
I must walk on latitude to get to the longitude
I must not walk with the multitude
I`m from north I`m nice
from south I`m sound
East I can endure
From west I`m wonderful
Together we are one
Our diverse cultures, beliefs and languages we uphold
No discrimination against another
Because we eat and drink from one source
Change we all embrace.
I inherit because I merit
Not for a credit I sold my merit
Because I am a zenith
And for none I have vowed to lend it
Not even for a penny I`m ready to sell it
I`m ready to defend it
Because I am a Dennis.
I am love for I am young
Unsafe abortion
Unwanted pregnancy
Early sex
The prevalence among youths
The dilemma of our society
The future mothers are dying
Our future fathers are dinning and swimming in the pool of unprotected sex
Our young generation is dying silently
The future leaders are perishing
Who will deliver us?
I was in chain, but I emulate change
With this change, I am free from chain
And now I am an advocate of change
Because I refuse to be in chain
A single candle cannot light up the world
A single tree cannot make a forest
A single wood cannot boil the ocean water
But a million ant can finish up an elephant
Change today and stop to feign
Change start with you and me.

THE FAST GROWING ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES IN NIGERIA
THE FAST GROWING ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES IN NIGERIA
One of the major cankerworm that hinders development and stands as a stumbling block for continuous growth of a nation is corruption. Corruption is popularly defined as the characterization of our national culture.
Economics according to Adams Smith (1776) is defined as an inquiry into nature and causes of wealth of a nation. It is the state of a country or region in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services and the supply of money.
Finance is defined as the management of large amount of money by government or large companies.
Crime is defined as an offence against an individual or the state which is punishable by law.
Crime is defined as an offence against an individual or the state which is punishable by law.
Economic and financial crime has been one of the major cankerworms that have eaten up the whole system of the economy, thereby causing retarded growth and development, and nurturing a kwashiorkoric and a lame systematic economy. The rate at which economic and financial crime is going in our society is rather irreversible and causing lots of damages than repair.
The issue of economic and financial crime in our society today has been one of the long existing problems the whole system of the economy has been confronting. Lots of strategies and plans have been implemented to curb this long existing dilemma but to no avail. It keeps waxing stronger and stronger by the day.
Our present society today is full of different economic and financial crimes, they are numerous and countless in their numbers, and they have eaten up the economy of our local government, state and country, thereby leading to unproductivity and retarded growth in the economy, making government unaccountable, which results to embezzlement of funds and shortage of growth in the economy.
Scam another name for cyber crime in our society is the latest and the present in our society. This is very common among the youths of today, turning thousands of youths into vagabonds and making them unproductive to their society and themselves. This present disease has shifted the focus of the youths from pursuing after realistic goals and careers that will enable them to contribute to national growth and development, that would make them responsible to themselves and to positively impact and immensely contribute to economic development, but allowing themselves to become tools for evil , and engaging in dubious activities.
Money laundering is another ravaging problem confronting our present society, which is the illegal transfer of funds that is meant for the development of all sectors of the economy from a country to another country, most commonly practiced by some individuals in different administrations of the economy both in the state and in the federal level. Different agencies like EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) and other agencies like ICPC have been introduced to eradicate these problems but it seems to be getting worse day after day, even with their complimentary effort in reducing the rate of economic and financial crimes.
Drug trafficking is also one of the day to day activities today in our society, that has turn many individuals useless to themselves and society. A lot of disciplinary measures have been introduced but it seems not to be working, drugs have a lot of negative and consequential effect on any economy and the effects are numerous both to the economy and the people of that particular country.
Illegal travelling document is another problem, whereby many go into different countries of the world with illegal / fake traveling documents and when later found out; such people are deported back to their countries thereby giving the country a bad image internationally.
Illegal printing of the Nigerian currency is also one of the many crimes that some individuals who are not authorized or given the legal license to print currency go into this illegal act, hereby violating the law.
All of these and many more are the economic and financial crimes in our society today. They are all enemies to the economy and they are the causative agents of all the underdevelopment and shortage of growth in the economy and can only be eradicated if the citizens and government can emulate the good policy of honesty as its legacy in the provision of basic and social amenities like good roads, good hospital care system, good educational system, good security services and provision of good jobs that will help in reducing the rate of unemployment in the country. It will also enable the citizens to contribute to national development and growth and so on. If all of these are provided and the government is accountable, that will build confidence in the heart of the citizens, and make them believe in the ability of their leaders to carry out their set goals, thereby creating stability and accelerated development in the nation which will help in eradicating the rapid and fast growing economic and financial crimes in the nation.
